Lisbon’s hometrails
Sintra & Ericeira
Sintra and Ericeira, two stunning destinations in Portugal, offer incredible opportunities for biking enthusiasts. Only 45 minutes outside of Lisbon the peaks of Serra de Sintra and the rough Atlantic ocean are connected through an uncountable number of trails with routes for all experience levels. Serra de Sintra with steep up and downs and technical rides, between Sintra, Cascais, Colares and Cabo da Roca, is an ideal playground for experienced bikers. The coastal trails between Serra de Sintra and Ericeira and Santa Cruz are outstanding scenic rides between the beaches and the high cliffs also for less experienced riders.
Both Sintra and Ericeira offer a unique blend of natural beauty, rich cultural heritage and diverse terrain, making them excellent bike areas for those who seek adventure and scenic exploration. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced biker, these destinations have something for everyone. So, hop on your bike and uncover the magic of Sintra and the coastal charm of Ericeira!
Serra de Sintra and the trails along the coast are indeed a mountain bike area. Serra de Sintra between Sintra, Colares and Cascais comes with steep ups and downs in a rough terrain. For experient riders we recommend full suspension bikes, for unexperienced riders e-bikes might be the right option. The coastal trains to Ericeira and Santa Cruz are technically easier and doable on hardtails.
Serra de Sintra also offers plenty of roads with limited traffic what makes it a favorable destination for roadies. While the coastal trails are quite rough for gravel bikes and N241, the main road along the coast got quite a bit of traffic, the interior especially north of Ericeira is a pleasent gravel destination with low traffic and many accessable field and forrest roads.
